What is the procedure for completing school or camp forms?

With rare exception, we are able to complete school and camp forms either at the appointment or by the end of the same day that they are received. You do not have to bring in extra copies of the state of Maryland health inventory or immunization form.

What is your policy on using cell phones as well as eating and drinking in the office?

I feel that my office is an extension of my home, and I want you to feel as welcome in my office as a guest does in my home. As a guest in my office, please feel free to use your cell phone during your office visit. I only ask that you refrain from using your phone or answering phone calls while either my staff or I work directly with you. For your convenience, there is a phone in the back of the waiting room next to the baker's rack.

Additionally, feel free to give your child a snack or drink during your office visit. I do ask for your consideration and help in keeping the exam rooms clean. So, please make sure that you clean up after your child by disposing of any pieces of food that may have dropped on the floor.

What is HIPAA?

HIPAA is the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act - legislation that was passed by Congress in 1996 and went into effect in 2003.  The goal of HIPAA is both to improve efficiency in healthcare delivery by standardizing electronic data interchange as well as add an additional layer of protection and confidentiality to your medical information.

This means that when you visit Hirsch Pediatrics for the first time (as well as any other medical office or hospital), you will be asked to review a copy of our privacy practices and sign an acknowledgement from.  These are also available online as well as in our waiting room.  Though managing your child's care in a HIPAA compliant fashion can be tedious at times, we at Hirsch Pediatrics embrace the extra level of security and control over healthcare that HIPAA gives you and your family.  Click here to learn more about HIPAA.

How do I get a prescription re-filled?

You may call our office or send a request by e-mail. You should expect your prescription to be refilled (at the very latest) by the end of the day. We will notify you when the prescription has been refilled.

Out of concern for the safety of your child, we have developed several parameters regarding certain prescriptions. We do not fill prescriptions for antibiotics or steroids without an office visit. To refill medications for managing ADHD and ADD, you must have an office visit once every 3-6 months to monitor for medication side effects. We are often unable to refill a prescription that has been prescribed by another sub-specialist, especially psychiatric medications.
