The Hirsch Pediatrics After-Hours Resources…
For emergent medical questions that arise after-hours or when the
office is closed for lunch, please call the main office number for
instructions on how to contact Dr. Hirsch directly. In the unlikely
event that 20 - 30 minutes have elapsed and you have not received
a response, please call back to have Dr. Hirsch paged again.
Please be advised
that although Dr. Hirsch is always available to his current patients
for after-hours emergencies, he is unable to manage or treat the
parents of patients as well as children who are patients of other
pediatric practices.
For non-emergent questions
or concerns, you may leave an after-hours phone message or send
an e-mail that will be responded to the morning of the next business
day. Messages expressing more urgent needs will be responded to
first, thus allowing your child to be seen at one of the earliest
morning appointments. Also, messages left during the lunch hour
will be returned when the office reopens at 2:00 PM.
If your child has an emergency
after office hours and we feel it would be unsafe to wait until
the next business day for an office visit, we will refer you to
a local urgent care center or emergency room.
Below, please find the
hours and contact information for the most commonly used urgent
care center and emergency rooms.
Nighttime
Care Center
(formerly known as Nighttime Pediatrics)
* Located 6 miles (11 minutes) from Hirsch
Pediatrics.
**You must call Nighttime Care Center at 301-468-NITE ahead of time
to schedule
an appointment—they are no longer accepting walk-in appointments.
You may call
one hour before opening time.**
Please note limited hours (open 365 days
per year):
Nighttime Care Center is usually less expensive and faster than
hospital emergency rooms and will also see adults. They are well
suited to handle most non-life threatening situations and are ideal
for situations like ear infections, sore throats, rashes, and fever
in children over 2 months of age.
Note: I would recommend a hospital emergency room
for more involved problems, including fever in children less than
2 months of age, difficulty breathing, and loss-of-consciousness.
